Delft: Fourth Rate Man O'War; Length: 170 ft; Beam: 45 ft; Comp: 300; Armament: 56 guns; Delftshaven, Netherlands; 1783 The Delft took part in the Battle of Camperdown (Kamperduin - see image below) on March 1st 1797, when engaged by HMS Montagu and HMS Monmouth she was quickly overwhelmed. The battle was significant in that it signalled the end of the Netherlands as a major naval power. A replica of the Delft is being built at this time in the Netherlands. | ||
Tre Kroner: Man O'War; Length: 117 ft; Beam: 44 ft; Comp: 450; Armament: 64 guns; Flensborg, Denmark; 1601 Built for Danish King Christian IV, she was a splendid and lavishly decorated vessel. In her day she would have been one of the largest warships afloat. Christian IV travelled to England in 1606 aboard the Tre Kroner to visit his brother-in-law, King James I of England. She may have been one of the inspirations for the building of the Prince Royal of 1610. Placed out of naval service in 1624 |
