Windsor Castle: HMS Windsor Castle; Screw (steam) driven three-masted First Rate; Length from fore part of figurehead to aft part of taffrail: 278 ft 6 in; Beam: 60 ft ; Depth in hold: 24 ft 8 in ; 3771 bm tons; Armament: 131 guns; Royal Dockyard, Pembroke, England; 1852 Originally built for sail only, she was cut in half and lengthened by 23 feet before launch to accommodate for a screw propeller and the steam boilers driving her. She was renamed on the first of October 1852 to HMS Duke of Wellington, and served as flagship in the Baltic during the Russian War. She was taken out of service and broken up in 1909. |
